…Anticipatory Reflections of Sunday…
I worry. A lot. I am a husband, a dad, a son, a sibling, a coworker, a teammate, and a pastor. I think I have something valuable to share with you, as we look forward to Sunday. When I bring my worried heart to Jesus….God comforts me and all my worry goes away. He does this when we bring “all our fears and doubts.” He does this when we “Cast all our cares on Him” (1 Peter 5:7)
Conversely from other religions like Buddhism, which promotes is the desire to no longer desire, Jesus calls us into a holy relationship with God that IN NO WAY influences you to stop caring/feeling/wanting. Rather, He fulfills your desires, and gives you the most ingenious thing to do with your cares: you now have ability to bring worry to the One who holds authority to handle them, One who holds love in you beyond your capacity to comprehend. (Beyond mine.) He is greater than our fears and cares.
If you would, would you consider Psalm 94:19 with me? Here are three translations from Hebrew into English, as best as several scholars could do:
When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy.
When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.
When my anxious thoughts multiply within me,
Your consolations delight my soul.
When I bring my worried heart to Jesus….
Great anxiety…turns into Joy.
Many cares of my heart…turn into Cheer.
Multiplied anxious thoughts…turn into Delight.
Singing is such a beautiful way to give our worries to God. Singing is a vulnerability as it is, isn’t it? Will we sing the right notes? Will we sound goofy? Will people care? Worry cannot stay long, when we live in faith that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. I believe He is. Those are lyrics we will sing together soon.
I look forward to singing to our God, together with you!
