…Anticipatory Reflections of Sunday…
Psalm 57:1-3
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, ‘til the storms of destruction pass by.
I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
This Sunday, we see the story where David flee King Saul. While David’s friends were hashtagging #NotMyKing, David held onto the belief that God had anointed Saul as King and there had to be another way, than to kill him. God was pleased with David’s heart–not because he went above and beyond bending over backwards–because it was God’s heart.
Before the sermon, when we sing You are God Alone (Not A god), we sing because He is God and no man can dethrone or undo Him. We then share in a Psalm 96 Moment, as we remind ourselves that God is speaking, in 2019. The next two songs, Everlasting God & Glory to God Forever, celebrate the faithfulness and glory of our God! We profess our own fidelity to the God who “will not faint” and who is “reigning still” and I hope you feel free to clap or sing loud or shout or all three!
Just before the announcements and Jeff’s message, we sing Hope Has a Name, and immediately after the message we sing What a Beautiful Name — similar in theme, the Name of Jesus is the authority under which we live our lives — not ultimately under the authority of the President of the United States. Although, it is good for us to submit to our rulers, every ruler will bow his and her knees to the God who reigns forever.
Here is verse three to the Psalm David prayed, when fleeing King Saul: He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!
Let’s come with expectation that God will move, this week, among us!
