What Does It Mean to Give?
Do I have to give money to church?
Do I really have to give 10%?
Is that after taxes and after I pay my bills?
Have you ever wondered about those questions? Or have you ever been told that you have to give a certain amount?
In the Old Testament, we are given examples of tithing and giving starting with Abram in Genesis 14:20 giving a tenth of everything. A few chapters later in Genesis 28:22, Jacob gave a tenth of all that was given to him. When we get to Exodus 25:2, the Lord gives instructions to Moses for collecting gifts.
In Malachi 3:10, we are also shown an example of where we can test God: in our giving.
In the New Testament, 2 Corinthians 9:5-8 tells us we should be giving willingly and from our heart. And Romans 12:1-2 says that the real sacrifice that we should be giving is ourselves.
So, rather than thinking of only money when you think about or hear about giving, think about giving of your time, your talents, and your treasure. Be led by God on what that looks like. Where are you being led by God to help? Perhaps in the Nursery, AWANA, Loretto Fun Fest, leading a Bible study, visiting and encouraging someone that is going through hard times. As well as, where is God showing you that he would like to use your finances?
If you want to give financially to Village, there are multiple options, including:
- The General Fund is used to pay for the building, staff, and ministries that Village is involved in.
- The Village Family Fund is used by the Elders to help those in need.
- The Early Mortgage Payoff Fund is used to pay down the mortgage.
